Alice Kent Stoddard
(1885-1976 )
A student of William Merritt Chase, Alice Kent Stoddard moved beyond Chase's pure Impressionism, creating a more modern visual vocabulary. She became known for her vibrant and vividly colored landscapes, as in this dramatic scene of a summer storm in Maine.
Paintings by Stoddard are included in the collections of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and other museums.
