Benton Spruance
(1904-1967)

Philadelphia artist Benton Spruance was regarded as a pioneer in color lithography and printmaking. He developed a muscular style well suited to the sporting scenes and other WPA era subjects he became known for.

Most American museums with important print collections have works by Spruance, including the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC, the Museum of Modern Art and the Whitney Museum in New York City.
